If you fish the Parks Highway during the salmon seasons, there may be times when you will find kings, silvers, chums, pinks, or sockeye holding at the mouth of Rabideaux Creek. It has never been a great producer for us, but other people enjoy the atmosphere and do catch salmon, burbot, rainbow trout and grayling here.
Accomodations Rating: Primitive. Parking is on a long gravel bar along the Susitna River just downstream of the Parks Highway Bridge.
Access: Easy. A short hike around the bend from the end of the long gravel bar provides access to Rabideaux Creek.
Crowds: Light. There are never many people fishing the confluence of Rabidueax Creek during king season.
RABIDEAUX CREEK, ALASKA FISH AND FISHING RATINGS:
King Salmon (Chinook) Fishing Rating: Not Good - Fair. We do not enjoy fishing Rabideaux Creek for kings. It is slough-like with little current. At times, kings hold here, but not on a regular basis. Fishing Techniques for king salmon at Rabideaux Creek include pond-style or casting spinners and spoons.
Silver Samon (Coho) Fishing Rating: Decent to Good. Toward the end of August, Rabideaux Creek is an okay place to try your luck. Fishing Techniques for silver salmon here include casting spinners and spoons, or fishing eggs.
Red Salmon (Sockeye) Fishing Rating: Not Good. Although some sockeye show up at Rabideaux Creek, it does not offer much oppurtunity to catch them.
Pink Samon Fishing Rating: Decent to Good. During even numbered years ie., (2008, 2010, 2012) pinks can be fun at Rabideaux Creek in early August. Fishing Techniques for pink salmon at Clear Creek: Casting spinners and spoons such as pixies, blue fox, or vibrax is the most effective technique for pinks.
Chum Salmon Fishing Rating: Not Good. Chum salmon are present at the same time as pink salmon, but the fishing is not worthwhile. Fishing Techniques include casting spinners and spoons, or soaking eggs.
Rainbow Trout Fishing Rating: Decent. Rainbows are present in Rabideaux Creek year round, but the best fishing occurs in September.
Grayling Fishing Rating: Decent. Grayling are present in Rabideaux Creek year round, but the best fishing is in September.
