Middle Fork Chulitna River, Alaska Fishing

If you fish the Parks Highway later in king or silver salmon seasons, you should fish the clear Middle Fork of the Chulitna River and its tributaries. This fishery sees almost no fishing pressure and reasonable numbers of both kings and silvers can be caught along with resident rainbow trout and grayling. Denali National Park is just a short drive from this excellent, but little known fishery!

Accomodations Rating: Primitive. You are looking at roughing it in one of the dirt pull outs along the highway.

Access: Easy - Moderate.

Access to Honolulu Creek mouth is relatively easy and just a 0.98 mile hike from the road on a 4-wheeler trail. Just several hundred yards walk downstream provides casting access to the West Fork of the Chulitna River.

Access to the confluence of Fourth of July Creek is easy via a somewhat difficult to find 4-wheeler trail and just a 0.31 mile hike from a parking spot along the road.

Access to the confluence of Coal Creek is moderate via a 0.67 mile hike from the road along the river. There is no trail. Use your GPS.

Access to the confluence of the East and Middle Forks confluence of the Chulitna River is a little more than moderate and involves about 60 minutes hiking via the best foot access route. There is no trail.

Crowds: Very Light. Very few people fish the Middle Fork of the Chulitna River. It is hard to imagine the quality of fishing this river system offers in the absence of people and it's accessible from the road system.
