Denali National Park, Alaska Information
Denali National Park is approximately 237 miles north of Anchorage. This 237 mile stretch of Alaska road system provides opportunity for incredible salmon fishing action! Denali National Park and Preserve is spectacular, encompassing a massive 6,075,030 acres, or 9,492.24 square miles. The Denali Visitor Center is 1,746 feet above sea level. The scenery is impressive and visitors often see a variety of wildlife including dall sheep, caribou, moose, grizzly bear, and even wolves. Tip: Bring along binoculars to better see distant wildlife.
Access: Somewhat limited. Private vehicles can only travel 14.8 miles inside the park. The rest of the 90 mile road inside the park is limited to travel on a bus, bike, or by foot. The two primary ways to tour the park by bus are to either ride the shuttle buses (green buses), or to go on one of the tour buses. The green shuttle buses are a more economical way to travel within the park and they also provide the freedom for you to get off anywhere to hike, or just hangout and enjoy the scenery. You can catch any other green bus when it comes along.
Shuttle buses depart the Denali Wilderness Access Center frequently. Trips range in length from as short as five hour round trips up to 13 hour bus rides if you decide to go the whole distance. If you do not have a set schedule, tickets are available on a first come, first served basis; or you can make reservations by calling 1-800-622-7275 Nationwide, or 1-907-272-7275 for International, or via the Web: www.reservedenali.com
